The fastest way to get started with developing a system for the MP32 processor is by starting with the MP32 Hardware Reference Design, available as a Qsys ready project. This design serves as a starting point for both developing your FPGA design as well as getting started with your embedded software application.

The MP32 Hardware Reference Design can be targeted to any of Altera's or SLS's Development kits.

Altera has partnered with industry-leading vendors-the Altera Embedded Alliance-to provide best-in-class development tools and software to accelerate your embedded development process.

  • Use the MIPS Navigator ICS or Wind River's Workbench software development suite to develop your software application.
  • Reuse legacy software application code and available middleware for the VxWorks real-time operating system. The MP32 processor is the first and only soft processor to support VxWorks.

You can use the MP32 Processor core in conjunction with Altera's Qsys system integration tool, which lets you quickly and easily build custom solutions by integrating a single or multi-core processors and other IP from Altera and its Embedded Alliance Partners.

Hardware:

The MP32 processor IP core, can be downloaded, evaluated and purchased through SLS. The MP32 supports Open Core Plus, which provides risk-free evaluation at no cost. In addition, SLS provides design services including Board Support Packages and a variety of FPGA IP Cores.

Software

The MP32 Processor is fully supported by a variety of Design and Debugger Tools including:

Operating Systems

MP32 is designed to run a variety of Operating Systems and is the only FPGA processor to support the Wind River VxWorks OS.

  • The VxWorks OS can be evaluated on the hardware reference design above by downloading the Stratix III Development Kit BSP from the Wind River BSP Site. The Stratix III Development Kit can be found here.

Technical Training

The FPGA design flow for the MP32 Processor is based on Qsys. Altera has several soft-core processor training classes. You can find them here.

Clients Talk

The support services on the phone were commendable. Once we had SLS on the phone and in house they were very knowledgeable - Erik Malone, Qualcomm (USA)
